Death to You: Creasy Eye Shadow

Feb 11, 2010 by

Several moons ago, I used to work as a make-up artist in both a store and after hours in a spa/salon.

The experience was fun – most of the time – but the best part of that job, as you’d imagine, was the make-up freebies I got to experiment, play with

and *ahem* recommend.

Fast forward a few years later, and I have drawers filled with make-up that I occasionally give away but mostly play with and explore new uses for (the best blush I have? an ex-cream combined with leftover lipstick. That’s right).

My make-up devil has always been the eye-shadow crease in the eye that tells the world you put your make-up in the morning and don’t bother

keeping it fresh throughout the day. Most of us working/moving/busy people, don’t have time to remember a run to the washroom with powder and eyeshadow in hand to adjust for the day’s natural wear and tear. Most of us, are happy to leave the office, go home and reapply for an evening out.

Yes, I know certain products exists to cut down on the amount of time you spend removing stale eyeshadow and re-applying for an evening out.

I’ve tried several, and most don’t live up to their hype. But I did find one that absolutely WINS (until someone else comes up with a better product).

Meet: Two Faced’s Shadow Insurance – a make-up primer in a a little tube of awesomness.

It’s neutral coloured almost concealer-like cream that you need to spread very thinly on your eyelids before applying your shadows/liners and such. It doesn’t alter the colour and hold it for, count it, 17 hours (by my count – after which I cleaned my face and went to sleep). My eyelids (an extension of my combination/oily skin) did not crease the shadow in the slightest, all the little glitters stayed in tact and my eyes looking as fresh

and sharply outlined as they were in the morning.

Shadow Insurance is silicone based and shouldn’t -in theory- irritate your eyelids. It doesn’t feel as heavy as the MAC paints or goopy like Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. You can also blend in your colours without fear of removing the undercoat of the primer – but I’d advise you leave it on a few seconds to dry up before you apply your shadows.

I picked mine up at Sephora, after my own awesome beauty consultant Lou gave me a sample to try before purchasing. The tube cost $24.00 CND.

I did squint my eyes at the cashier, as though to say, “really, 24?” but then I remembered that I only need a little bit of it each time so the tube will likely last for quite some time.

Besides, nothing beats the feeling of fresh make-up, especially if you’re batting eyes with a cute guy and trying to do the coy “looking-below” look.  How hilarious would that look be if your eye makeup was messier than that of Amy Winehouse.
