Gift Recommendations for Graduation

Do you remember your graduation time? Both from high school and post secondary?

I remember mine clearly, but it seems as though it was forever ago. I recall crossing the stage and receiving my diploma. A great sense of accomplishment came over me, and I vaguely remember seeing my parents’ faces beam as I walked off stage.  This was the final chapter in a five year journey that has prepared me for the rest of my life.

Graduation is a big deal. And it’s celebrated in a large way by those nearest and dearest to our hearts. And now, it’s that time of year again when summer approaches, and schools end. That means for 25% of the student (roughly), that’s graduation time – and more directly, gift-receiving time.

I’m sharing some of my list for what to buy graduates both from high school and university. These are items that – I believe – come in handy when they being their young adult lives, whether at a post secondary institution or at a brand new job.

· A new watch or pendant – can be engraved with the graduation date and maybe a personal message
· A leather portfolio; especially for those entering schools/industries where having one is part of the resume
· An expensive or engraved pen – like a Mont Blanc Meisterstück – especially for the classically inclined graduate
· A new shirt, tie or perhaps even a suit suit for the numerous job interviews coming
· A laptop bag; leather is nice, but you can get new retro bags for the fashion forward

  • for the techophile – perhaps a locally made PowerStick? There is no such thing as an overcharged phone

· And finally, if you really want to go over the top – a ticket abroad to send them backpacking for a few things may be just the thing they need to literally “go out and see the world”.

At the end of it all, I know for a fact the present isn’t the most crucial element of the after-graduation high. Having the supportive group behind you will mean infinitely more than any iPad you can get. And further, the sense of accomplished you ought to feel will be second to none. So to all those graduating now, I say: “Congratulations and have a great bright future ahead!”
