Happy Canada Day!

Happy Birthday Canada!

The country turns 143 years old this year (technically the British North America Act).  History aside, Canada Day is the one day in the year that the world turns red and white with Maple leaves plastered everywhere. London gets a party at Canada House in Trafalgar Square and expats in the U.S. and Australia host their own Canada Day parties. At home, we’re filled with so much pride and joy – the levels of which are not seen unless the Canadian Hockey team plays in the Winter Olympic finals for gold.

Ottawa is a great place to be during this awesome fête, likely the best spot in the country to do so. Here are some great ways to celebrate in the Nation’s Capital.

Canada Day Festival 2010 at Andrew Haydon Park. They have a variety of midway rides, face painting, Live musical entertainment. fireworks and more.

Parliament Hill – There are a variety of free concerts throughout the day as well as changing of the guard at 10am.  The festivities end at 10pm with a spectacular fireworks display.  Major’s Hill Park and Jacques-Cartier Park are also very popular spots to hang out on Canada Day.
Clarke Fields park in Barrhaven have a variety of kids events throughout the day starting at 11am and ending around 10pm with fireworks.

Walter Baker Park in Kanata have a great Canada Day planned.  There are several concerts, puppet shows, mini putt and several other activities planned.

If you are looking for something a little more low key all of the museums are open and most of them offer free admission.

Happy Canada Day Everyone!
