Ye Auld Kirktown : New Shopping Spot
I was travelling from Cornwall to Lancaster in hopes of seeing more of South-East Ontario’s landscapes and visiting the much-touted Glengarry Cheese shop. I was told to stop by a small gift shop called the “Auld Kirktown” on my way to Lancaster and view some of their merchandise before moving towards the cheese shop.
I jotted quickly the name “Old Kirk Town” and didn’t really know if I had enough time to stop by and take a look. As I drove down Highway 2, I spotted a dream-like yellow house perched on a small hill with wind chimes flailing about asking passersby to stop by if even for a small peek. I couldn’t resist the facade, so I pulled over and was pleased to see the sign by the door reading “Auld Kirktown”.
Since I was already there, I reasoned what were five extra minutes spent here before my journey continues to the cheese shop?
An hour and some minutes later, I emerged with a few bags, a decent number of photographs, some gift ideas for my friends’ upcoming birthdays, and the pleasure of meeting Robyn and Elizabeth – the shop’s owner and her daughter.
The Auld Kirktown is a dream come true for any female shopper – and I say this because the shop caters to the gentler
sex. With products ranging from kitchenware to linens, personal care to leather goods, shoes to office paraphernalia and furniture, everyone is sure to find something that appeals to them.
The ladies of the shop have great style, reflected by the items they carry, and their friendliness pulls you in from the moment you walk through the door. I’m particularly thankful to Elizabeth’s gift wrapping skills (my sister was most pleased with her small gift), and her knowledge of the many products’ features and benefits.
If you haven’t been to the shop yet and will be venturing towards the general area of Cornwall, do stop by the Auld Kirktown. The quality of the products is good, the prices are extremely reasonable (some items retail at 1/3 of the price usually charged at similar gift shops). And if you are shopping for someone else, with no particular idea as to what they may like, consider a gift card.
This lovely shop is located on 20383 Highway 2 – (or Exit #814, Highway 401 & 2) in South Lancaster.
You can reach Robyn Denis & Elizabeth at (613) 347-3527.
Happy shopping!
PS. I never made it to the cheese shop. It was too late by the time I got there, so I’m bound to return in a few weeks.
