Label Heaven

Baby H started daycare about a month ago with four other children in his group.  Another girl at the daycare had the same sippy cup, and I knew I had to find a way to separate my child’s property from the others’ (if only for health reasons). I remembered someone telling me about Mabel’s Labels, so when I returned home I did some research on the product.

As soon as I browsed through their selection, I realized the many hidden needs for labeling when it came to children’s items. There were many uses for the labels listed and the claimed functionalities were attractive. Some labels were microwave-friendly, others were dishwasher safe, and such. It also helped that the labels themselves were cute with a great room for personalization. So I thought I’d give the product a try and see how we fare.

I purchased the School/Camp Combo for Baby H which included:

  • A couple of tags (we used them for his back pack),
  • Sticky labels (for all of his sippy cups and bowls),
  • Shoe labels, and
  • Iron-on labels (sweaters, jackets, etc).

When the box arrived, I was happy with the packaging and individual zip-lock baggies that came with instructions on how to use the labels (very helpful, since some labels looked the same but had very different purposes like iron-ons).

We’ve struck a few on the Baby’s items and have been hearing good things from the daycare mommies that appreciated the clear separation. I’ll be going back for some more labels with the changing needs of Baby H.

Bonus points for Mabel’s label: they’re a Canadian mommy-run company operating from Hamilton, Ontario!

Love these labels! I got them for all of Zoe’s things for school and if you ordered it through their site for the school some of the proceeds go towards school funding. They are fantastic!!
I have used a P touch to label all of the kids cups at daycare who don’t have the labels, that works great as well.

As a safety precaution might I suggest that you only put your surname on the child’s label.
    1) Less chance of a stranger with less than honorable intentions try to befriend your child by calling them by their first name. Some safety websites discourage the use of your child’s name on labels.
    2) You can always write your child’s first inital on your label if you have other children with the same last name in your daycare.
    3) Mom and Dad can be stylish and use the labels too.
    4) The shoe labels could also be ordered as L and R to help your child determine left and right shoe.

    Thanks G. Auntie V.

I never thought of only putting the first initial and last name on the labels. On my next order I will be sure to do it.
Thank you for the fantastic tips!

Their fund raising program is great. It is definitely better than selling chocolate.

They will come in very handy when your little one goes to daycare. :) Canadian companies are well worth supporting. There are so many gems in our own backyard.

I have to agree with you on Mabel’s Labels they are very useful especially when you have a class of 15-20 kids, sometimes it is very hard to remember which water bottle belongs to which kid and kids often forget which is theirs…
