Saunders Farm – A Great Place For Halloween Fun
My Husband and I have never been to Saunders Farm during the daytime. We thought it would be a good idea to bring Baby H and have a great Halloween. His little friend Baby C joined in on the fun as well.
When we first got there, my Husband and our friend went into the “Barn of Terror” taking with them the two tots. There was a sign by
the entrance that advised parents against taking children under 10 inside, but my Husband – wanting to raise a superman – decided they’re all strong enough to brave the terror. It was too scary for everyone, superman Husband included.
A little while later, we took babies H and C over to the “Big Sky Ranch Animal” display, which they absolutely loved. The display had a variety of animals including a pony, lama, sheep, duck and the cutest little piglet we ever laid eyes upon. Baby H was very keen on his little piglet friend, he kept sticking his hand out to pet it and wouldn’t stop grinning. If that pig was up for adoption, our family would have had a new member by now. It’s important to note at this point that the display is only open between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
We took the kids on the spooky wagon ride, which was also very popular with our tots. I think I was more afraid than anyone else around. The wagon went all through the back forest that was full of little “spooky” traps, lots of bumps in the road that made my spine twinge every few minutes. That kind of abuse went very well with the children, they kept bouncing around, kicking, screaming, yelling and having a blast. I was also happy with our spooky wagon drivers that made the ride funny at times, and even gave little C a chance to “drive” the tractor.
Before we left, we hopped on the Pumpkin Patch hayride that took us to the patches so we can pick our own and carve into it later on.
The farm itself has a large number of shows for visitors to watch. There is also a “March of the Monsters Parade”, where several staff members dress up in amazing costumes and hand out candy to everyone around.
Saunders Farm has many many many activities for the children to partake in. There are 11 mazes for groups to go through. We took our lot into one of the smaller corn maze and they enjoyed the constant turns. I’ll just note that some mazes are not exactly stroller-friendly, but then again very few mazes are built for some of the large strollers you see around.
The farm has several play structures of different shapes and sizes. I particularly liked “Farmer Bill’s Barnyard Tree House”, which is a giant tree house filled with hay! I’m not even going to start describing the neat pirate ship climbing structure.
If you are planning on visiting the Farm for an afternoon, there are plenty of places there to get snacks. There is a place to get BBQ’d hotdogs and hamburgers, apples and fudge. And if you preplan your visit, I suggest purchasing tickets at one of the designated Independent Grocer’s as tickets there retail for $14.00 (instead of $16.00 for the day). Night time admission is slightly higher though.
I honestly do recommend Saunders Farm for a family outing, as the day would surely be filled with all sorts of activities and rides. Best of all, it’s only 20 minutes away from Ottawa.
