Top Flora to Gift on Mother’s Day

Gardening is one of my mom’s favorite hobbies.  Every Mother’s Day, we get her plants for her the garden.  There are tons to choose from, and I never know which ones will be most appealing to her.  I spend a couple of hours in Rona wandering around looking for interesting flowers and pestering the sales lady with 101 questions.  This year, I’ve decided to put down some of my recommendations for some perennials and annuals that have done historically well in my family.

Top 5 Annuals

  • Impatients- You can`t go wrong with these flowers.
  • Petunias
  • Daylillies
  • Bleeding Heart
  • Snowfire

Top 5 Perennials (shade lovers)

  • Monkshood
  • Hellebore
  • Periwinkles
  • Hemerocallis Tom Collins (aka Daylily)
  • Bee Balm or Bergamot

Top 5 Perennials (sun lovers)

  • Hibiscus – I loooooooooove these and highly recommend them as a plant-present
  • Oriental Lilles
  • Black Eyed Susan
  • Plume Poppy
  • Hollyhock

If your mom does not have a green thumb but loves flowers, Orchids make a fantastic choice. They come in a variety of colors, are somewhat easy to maintain and look phenomenal in an office or a home.

The Canadian Tulip Festival starts on May 6.  If you can’t give her a flower, why not take her to see thousands of them!
