Happy Canada Day!
Happy Birthday Canada!
The country turns 144 years old this year. It’s the one day in the year that the world turns red and white for us, with Maple leaves plastered everywhere. We’re filled with so much pride and joy across the nation, but the place to be today in the whole country is Ottawa. And half a million people flocking to the city to celebrate certainly confirm that notion.
What are some good ways to spend around town? It’s a mix between the traditional outings and a couple of new ones.
This year made more exciting by having the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Wills and Kate) in town. Noon o’clock is when they will be on center stage on Parliament Hill. The day itself will have fre concerts and activities for the whole day leading up to the 10 p.m. fireworks. The neighbouring Major’s Hill Park and Jacques-Cartier Park also have several activities and spots for you to have front-row seats to the birthday celebrations.
The festivities in Orleans start at 11 a.m., with plenty of things for the kids to d like volleyball, karate demonstrations, karaoke and magic shows. The activities wrap up at 10pm with fireworks.
Canada Day Festival 2010 at Andrew Haydon Park.
Between midway rides, face painting, live musical entertainment, fireworks and more, this park offers a very good show to West End goers.
Clarke Fields park in Barrhaven
Will have a variety of child-friendly events throughout the day starting at 11am as well. The the very popular Battle of the Bands is also making a comeback to the park in the popular suburb. But it’s lights out for everyone after 10pm, with the conclusion of the fireworks.
For great information on how to celebrate in Barrhaven, including information on parking and street traffic, visit CanadaDayinBarhaven.ca.
Several concerts, puppet shows, mini putts will be taking place at the park as well for those that can’t make the trek downtown.
But if you’re looking for something a little more low key to do with your family or by yourself, all of the museums are open and most of them offer free admission.
Have a fantastic Canada Day everyone!
