Escape with the Ford Focus
Now that fall has arrived, I am missing the warm sunny days where you could escape and relax in the hot sun. I find myself thinking back to the August long weekend. I had the chance to try out a new 2012 Ford Focus for a week, so I decided that I would pack up the family and go on a mini road trip to Gananoque for the day.
The Ford Focus I had was a sleek white hatchback that was fully loaded with leather seats and a sunroof. It was a beauty and a luxury to drive.
Travelling with a young child usually means you need to bring a lot of things with you, between sunscreen, beach toys, diapers, lawn chairs, towels and snacks you need a large trunk to accommodate all of these things. All of our items fit nicely in the trunk with a little extra room to spare.
The car drove like a dream on the 401. It was so quiet you almost forgot that you were driving on a busy highway. The seats were also extremely comfortable for a long drive.
The Focus has a unique MyFord TouchTMSync system that allows you to access your radio, phone and other car features by using voice command. I liked this feature because it allowed me to change the radio station, choose a song on my MP3 player or navigate using the GPS without having to take my hands off the steering wheel or eyes off the road.
It was also extremely easy to connect my phone to the cars Bluetooth system which allowed me to safely call the other cars that we were with, when we needed to make a much needed coffee break.
The car comes equipped with a GPS which was very handy. You simply punched in your destination when you get into the car and the
GPS will do the rest. The voice on the GPS will direct you on all upcoming turns so you do not have to worry about having your eyes glued to the GPS while driving.
Ford loads up its vehicles with an overwhelming amount of technology that takes a bit of time to get used to. At first I had no idea what I was doing but by the end of the week , I was a pro.
The car was also equipped with a rear view camera that was great when I was backing into a parking spot.
When I first learned to drive I absolutely loathed parallel parking so you can imagine my excitement when I found out that the Ford will parallel park. It’s as easy as pulling up next to the car you want to park behind, put the car in neutral and push the Active Park Assist button and off the car goes into the spot, greatest feature ever!
The Focus is very fuel efficient; you can get 4.8L/100Km of the highway and 7.2L/100km in the city. Compared to other cars that I have driven, this is fantastic amount of mileage for a full tank of gas.
With the hatchback model, one downfall I found is that there was not a lot of leg room in the back seat. The hatchback would be ideal for any couple, business professional or small family.
The 2012 Ford Focus has a lot to offer, anyone that is looking to purchase one will not be disappointed.
