Tis the season to give back
The holiday season is all giving. It is important for us not to forget the less fortunate members of our community at this time of year. Whether you’re donation is big or small, every little bit helps.
Here are two great charities that could use your help this time of year.
The Ottawa Food Bank collects, distributes and stores food for 140 agencies who serve people in need in Ottawa. It is extremely important to donate because there are many people that could be living next to you who may have no Christmas dinner this year. The most-needed items include: canned fish and meat; canned vegetables; whole grain cereal, cooking oil, household products, rice, soup, nutritional snacks, baby formula and diapers, juice boxes, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese and personal hygiene products. Whether you donate one non-perishable food item or two, you will be making a difference in someone’s life.
You can drop off your food donation at several locations around the city. Use this handy map to see where the closest donation bin is to you.
Toy Mountain is another great cause. The Salvation Army partnered with Majic 100 and CTV to collect and distribute toys to more than 15,000 children who are less fortunate.
They are looking for new, unwrapped toys for children between 0 and 12 years of age. The age groups that are most in need are 0 to 2 and 10 to 12. Toys can be dropped off at any Toy Mountain location. There are several drop off locations around the city, check their website to see where the nearest drop off location is. Drop offs can be made until December 14th to ensure that every child has a toy on Christmas morning.
Happy Holidays!
